After his recovery, the series returned to production
Story
A retired CIA agent is pursued by both the agency he once worked for and his own nightmares when an unknown man suddenly visits him after nearly three decades. Production was halted in March 2020 due to government restrictions. At the time, Jeff Bridges was diagnosed with and subsequently treated for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
Appeared at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards (2024)
Bridges referred to the return as coming back after a “long weekend” on a podcast in July 2022. This series starts off very strong, with great action and a slow-burn story that leaves the viewer very intrigued. Things don’t go so well after episode 4.
Lithgow and Bridges are great
Shawcat is kind of the anchor of the boat, delivering every line in a near monotone. None of the characters are particularly charming. When the plot and action slows down after a few episodes, a lot of awkward dialogue takes its place.
I’ll keep watching, hoping that things will improve
It seems clear that the writers tried to replicate the style of The Counselor, the script written by Cormac McCarthy, but they didn’t quite succeed. The more literary style of The Counselor confused many viewers. How much more confusing would it be if it was poor copy.
